There is no better way to learn about the practice of law than from
someone who already is in practice. RENNER OTTO offers both law clerks
and attorneys the opportunity to work one-on-one with attorneys at all
levels of experience, from associates to senior partners.
Law Clerk
RENNER OTTO seeks
law clerks with engineering or
scientific backgrounds to assist
associates and partners in their
practice of law. As a law clerk,
you can expect exposure to a
broad range of intellectual property
issues. Typical projects include
conducting legal research in
prosecution and litigation matters,
reviewing preliminary novelty
searches, drafting amendments
and responses to Patent Office
Actions and drafting patent applications.
You will have the opportunity
to work with attorneys on trademark
registrations and trademark opposition
and cancellation proceedings
before the Trademark Trials and
Appeals Board. Our clerks also
have the opportunity to research
various aspects of copyright
law including both the registration
and protection of our clients'
copyrights.
At a minimum, our clerks must be ranked in the top quarter of their law school class or maintain a 3.30 GPA. Registration as a patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is also favored, but not required. Typically, our law clerks work full-time throughout the summer. It is preferred, though not required, that our law clerks be available for part-time employment throughout the academic year. Part-time schedules are flexible to accommodate law school curriculum, but law clerks are expected to work between 15 and 20 hours per week.
