Patent Prosecution
All of the attorneys at RENNER OTTO hold degrees in engineering or scientific areas of study and are registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Many of our attorneys have advanced degrees in their areas of expertise and have significant real world engineering and scientific experience. These experiences provide our attorneys with a better understanding of the high-tech challenges that inventors face on a daily basis.
We believe that the best patent attorneys have a sound understanding of both patent prosecution and litigation. A patent prosecutor should have a thorough understanding of the developments of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in order to craft a patent that will survive a patent infringement lawsuit. In order to keep current on intellectual property law developments, our attorneys regularly participate in intellectual property forums within our firm and the professional community. These forums address the latest developments in patent law and how those developments affect our practice.
The attorneys at RENNER OTTO also have well-rooted professional relationships with patent attorneys around the world. These relationships allow us to provide our clients with international patent protection in any country where they do business or want protection. Some of our attorneys have spent significant amounts of time counseling both clients and foreign associates in Europe and Japan. When necessary, we leverage our international network of associates to successfully prosecute patents throughout North America, Asia, and Europe, including countries such as Canada, China, Japan, Germany and Mexico, just to name a few.
Patent prosecution often requires our attorneys to travel to the USPTO in Washington, D.C. It is common for our attorneys to make several trips to the USPTO per year to interview examiners or appear before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. Because of Cleveland’s proximity to Washington, D.C., our attorneys can visit and return from the USPTO in the same day.
