EPO to Increase Fees

The European Patent Office (EPO) will implement a general increase to its official fees starting April 1, 2026.

What to expect:

  1. For the most part, procedural fees are set to rise by around 5%.

  2. Search fees, examination fees, grant fees, and renewal fees will see the most impact.

  3. Filing fees, opposition fees, and appeal fees will not be impacted.

After several years of annual updates, the EPO is moving back to its biennial fee revision schedule. For a complete listing of updated fees, visit The Official Journal of the EPO.

If your organization has upcoming filings or planned fee payments, you may want to consider completing them before April 1, 2026, to take advantage of the current lower fee levels.
