USPTO Introduces New Online Filing Option for TTAB Petitions for Cancellation
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has announced a new online filing capability for Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) users. Starting May 12, 2025, petitioners will be able to file petitions for cancellation (a TTAB action requesting the cancellation of an existing trademark registration) through TTAB Center, the agency’s upgraded filing platform.
Until July 12, 2025, people may continue to file petitions using either TTAB Center or the current Electronic System for Trademark Trials and Appeals (ESTTA). After that date, ESTTA will no longer support the filing of petitions for cancellation.
The TTAB Center platform is being adopted as the primary system for all TTAB-related interactions. It is reported to offer several enhanced features, such as stronger security and system resilience, and advanced tools to assist with draft filings. It promises to centralize access to all TTAB filings, both current and past, within one single docket.
